FIM Motocross World Championship is the premier championship of motocross racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), divided into two distinct classes: MXGP and MX2. Race duration is 30 minutes plus two laps per race. The series runs 18 events with two races per class at each round.
The FIM Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series sanctioned by the F.I.M. It was inaugurated in 1957 using a 500 cc engine displacement formula.[1] In 1962 a 250cc class was added and in 1975, a 125cc class was introduced. Prior to 1957, the championship was known as the European Championship.
In 2004, the F.I.M. changed the displacement formulas to reflect the changes in engine technology and as a move towards environmentally friendlier four-stroke engines. The new MX1 class became the premier class, allowing two-stroke engines of up to 250cc and four-stroke engines of up to 450cc.[1] The MX2 class allowed two-stroke engines of up to 125cc and four-stroke motors of up to 250cc. The MX3 class allowed two-stroke engines of up to 500cc and four stroke engines of up to 650cc.[1]
Seriously injured in 2007 after clinching the 2006 MX2 world title for Kawasaki, Christophe resumed his successful career in the USA with two Supercross titles in the Lites class, but he has now decided to return to the World Championship and will join Kawasaki Team CLS for the second part of the 2011 season, including the Motocross of Nations is he is selected by the French Federation.
I want to thanks our partners, Monster Energy, Kawasaki, 13 Recyclage, Thor, Suomy, TCX, Distri bike, Ets Nogueira, Rennes Motos and Moto 85, all of whom have helped us to reach this agreement. For sure the strong connection between Team CLS, Kawasaki and Pro Circuit was important as Christophe knows the bike and the team. Christophe wants to show what he is capable of in this class, and of course it is also our goal to prove what the team can do in the MX1 class.

The former double 250cc number one was unable to complete either moto at Zolder for the season-opener two weeks ago after a course of antibiotics failed to rectify his weakened condition. Demoralised by the news the 29 year old is taking his time to recover and regain his strength. \"Everything was great until a few weeks before the 2006 season started and then I fell ill with a virus that would not respond to antibiotics,\" he said. \"I am really disappointed as this was my big chance being back in a factory team and for the MX1 crown. My health is the most important thing however and I have to be fit before starting to think about riding again. I will still do whatever I can to help KTM to win the MX1 title and also to develop the 2007 race bike.\"
KTM will now continue with Sebastien Tortelli, who won race one and claimed second overall behind Stefan Everts at Zolder, and young Spaniard Jonathan Barragan as their main spearhead for MX1 success.
\"This is a big disappointment for Mickael and all the team,\" admitted KTM's head of motorsport Kurt Nicoll. \"It has been a tough time for him because the medical advice to rest after Zolder would have meant missing another two grand prix and effectively losing any chance of the title he had worked hard for over the winter. It is obviously a blow for us to lose someone with Mickael's calibre but we want to stress that he is very much still a KTM rider and will help with further development on our race bikes once he is ready to ride again.\"cmgAdQueuePush( function(){ AccelerateAdManager.displayAd(\"ad-mpu-2-mobile\"); });
